Olde Sawmill Elementary   PTO Minutes: January 13, 2025
Attendees: Katie Ayers, TR Snyder, Ashley Walter, Katie Calhoun, Norberto Viamonte, Nick Bertams
Call Meeting to Order– Katie Ayers at 7:22
                  Welcome, Introductions
Approval of Minutes – Edited to include note left out at last meeting, Approved
Principal’s Report –
Leadership Update – Mrs. Barley is out on FMLA through end of Dec. Mr. Bertrams is taking over and Tessa Erwin is helping fill in as well.
Donuts with Grownups – Jan. 23rd, 8-9am in the gym. Staff is providing donuts, water, and juice. Ariel secured a coffee truck, will be on back parking area and coffee will be available for purchase.
APEX – Shared with leadership and staff, 1st email has been sent to community, 2nd email will go out next week, pep rally is 2 weeks from today, Glow Run on 5th and 6th.
Richens Timms – Irish Step Dance, Friday March 13th they will do a 30 minute performance for the school. They are asking for a $125 donation for the event.
Safety Drill this Thursday, did actually have a lock down in Dec. for a staff medical emergency.
District Testing this week
Title 1 Compact – need to share out how the title 1 funds are spent, the compact was shared to caregivers in Dec. Funds spent on Muffins and Math days, used about 80%. Purchasing of some tech., and some funds left over may be used to purchase math manipulatives for the next years math curriculum.
District Goals
Academic Goal #1 Early Literacy
By spring of 2026 K-3 literacy performance will meet the following expectations as measured by the spring assessments.
                  Kindergarten – Grade 2: The number of students scoring a composite score at or above grade level will increase by 25% from fall to spring administration on mClass DIBELS8
                  All 3rd grade students will be at or above the 47th percentile on MAP Growth 2- Reading or will have a literacy goal in place.
Student Experience Goal
                  By Spring of 2023 92% of students will report having a supportive relationship with a friend or adult from school.

                  All 4th and 5th who scored Basic or Limited on the Spring 2025 ELA OST will meet the criteria for the next highest quintile on the Spring 2026 ELA OST or have a literacy goal in place.

All students will complete at least 75% of their ST Math journey
Academic Goal #3
OSE Staff will implement strong tier one instruction using the new district adopted curriculum resource myView, resulting in positive teacher disposition toward the new curriculum and increased student performance on ELA assessments
Student Experience Goal #1
                  OSE Staff will implement strong tier one instruction using the new district adopted curriculum resource myView, resulting in positive teacher disposition toward the new curriculum and increased student performance on ELA assessments.
Student Experience Goal #2
                  In the Spring of 2025 92% of students will report having a supportive relationship with a friend, family member, or an adult from school.
                  All students will be able to identify a trusted adult at school to whom they can go for help.
                  Special emphasis on and monitoring of new students’ relationships with trusted adults.
President’s Report –
PTO Presidents meeting –
New process moving forward for redistricting. Working with a 3rd party and starting from scratch.
Homeland Security incident outside of Scioto on Dec. 19th. Working with student protestors and working on communication moving forward.
Donuts with Grownups – Jan. 23rd
No School Monday Jan. 19th
APEX – PTO fundraiser in full swing. Works with kids in classroom on leadership, will hold a pep rally the week of the 26th, and work with kids for 2 weeks in classrooms leading up to the Glow Run. Glow Run is Feb 5th and 6th, everything is within the school day. Parents will receive emails to sponsor the kid similar to a walk a thon, sponsor per lap capping out at 42 laps. Looking for parent volunteers to help to count laps during Glow Run, will put out a sign up via social media.

Grant Request:
$300.00 – Special Needs/SLC Cooking Club, there is a request holdover from last year that was approved and the funds rolled over to this year. Is this new request or does this request go with the previous year’s request? Mr. Bertrams will follow up, although he believes these are separate requests for separate groups.
We believe this request is for the cooking club that utilizes cooking class weekly. Ashley W. motions for approval, TR seconds, motion is approved pending final information/confirmation on which class the request is for.

Flowers – Dates from Fort Meyer for sale Starts 2.25, ends 3.13 with delivery 4.28, may ask to move the start date back since this start date is pretty close to the APEX fundraiser dates.

New Business – Email went out to across district that notified that some programs renting space at school it has been classified incorrectly, this directly affects the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and they will be charged starting July 1st $65 per hour per room. Cub scouts has discussed if cub scouts and girl scouts could come together and request a grant from PTO to cover the rental costs.
